Overdevelopment in Walton

Overdevelopment

With the price of property still very high in Walton we continue to see applications for residential redevelopments which are overambitious in their attempts to cram as many units into as small a space as possible. Such applications are regularly refused by the Council’s North Area Planning Committee only for the developer to put in an appeal, which the Planning Inspector then allows.

It was, therefore, refreshing to see an Inspector uphold the Council’s decision to refuse permission for two extra dwellings on land at 44 Mayo Road in central Walton with the words  “..I consider the residual site available is far too small, too closely hemmed in, inaccessible, inconvenient, cramped and inadequate to be suitable for infill development for two dwellings.” In this case, the local Walton Society Councillors helped nearby residents frame their objections and lodge them with the Planning Inspectorate, and the strength of local residents’ objections was clearly noted as a factor influencing the outcome of this appeal.
