Four weeks and counting……

Olympic Road Cycling 2012

With less than four weeks to go before you will have to consider the cyclist as never before; we have to brace ourselves for our participation in an event that will throw Walton on Thames into the spotlight and into the homes of billions of people across the world.

Preparation is now nearing its conclusion for one of the largest audience participation events ever to take place in England. It is estimated that between 800.000 and 1.2 million people will be on the route of the Olympic Road Cycling event which travels through our town.

Apart from the cameras on board the outriders preceding and following the cyclists, there will be helicopters overhead of the peloton throughout its 250kms on the Saturday and the 140kms on the Sunday, on both days passing through Walton on Thames.

The scheduled time for the peloton to pass Hampton Court is 10:35a.m on Saturday and 12:40p.m. on Sunday so a few minutes after these times you will see it pass through Walton.

Traffic movement on both of these days 28th and 29th July will be severely restricted and anyone wishing to use their car should plane well ahead as road closures around the route will come into force at 4:00a.m. Saturday and 6:00a.m Sunday. The roads are unlikely to be fully opened until later in the afternoon or early evening.
