Changes at Riverhouse Barn

After over 20 years in charge of everything at Riverhouse Barn, Susan Segal has announced her retirement. In the early 1980s Susan was one of the promoters of this Community Arts project, organising its rescue from a semi-derelict store for redundant Council parks equipment and converting it into a welcoming performance space for music, drama and cinema for audiences of up to 110 people. A Craft Studio, where a wide variety of classes take place, was opened by Kate Winslet in 1996, and the Robert Phillips Art Gallery and Cafe-Bar were added in 2000.

Gemma Aston has now taken over at Riverhouse as Artistic Director, and has recruited Fiona Leaning to run the Cafe and Jackie Armitage to organise all the volunteers who help run the place. If you would like to learn more about what is on at Riverhouse, visit their website www.riverhousebarn.co.uk or pop in in person, it is on Manor Road, on the spur that leads to Sullivans Reach not far from The Swan. The Gallery and Cafe are open Wednesday to Saturday 11am to 4pm and Sundays 2.30 to 4.30pm.
