More barriers than you imagined……

40 Kilometers of barriers will greet you this Sunday the 14th August if you turn out to watch the London-Surrey Classic Cycle Race.

Don’t forget to make sure that you are not parked on the cycle route after 11.00PM on the 13th August otherwise your vehicle will be towed away!

The following statistics about the race on Sunday have been supplied by SCC and will probably surprise you:

  • 140KM Race involving 145 top athletes
  • Race starts at 09:00 and finishes approx 12:45
  • Road closures will be in place from 06:00 to 14:15 depending on location
  • 158  Photographers will cover the race
  • 16 Television companies (likely to be live coverage)
  • All major news-agencies from GB and abroad covering the event
  • Over 4800 marshalls on the event
  • 650 Road closures — 350 of them in Surrey
  • 650 Police officers are employed to ensure roads are closed — 500 in Surrey

The route clearance will be managed by:

  • Tow-aways operate from midnight on the 13th August
  • Signs and bollards will be placed from 5:00am on the 14th August
  • Safety cars will leave 1 hour and 1/2 hour before the race
  • 9 police motorcyclists will leave 15-30 minutes before the “Bubble”
  • 9 police motorcyclists will leave 0-15 minutes before the “Bubble”
  • 5 Motorcycle marshalls will travel with the “Bubble” to ensure the route stays clear

So, together with the above, 40 KM’s of barriers will ensure that the cyclists all travel through Surrey safely.
