Jolly Boatman could become Jolly Good….

Below is our letter to support a new planning application regarding the former Jolly Boatman site at Hampton Court.

Dear Mr Morris,

Planning Application 2012 / 2362

Re Public Park Proposal for former Jolly Boatman Site

I write on behalf of The Walton Society to express support for the above proposal. I went over to Hampton Court last week and inspected the site myself, as well as observing the preparations for the Olympic Cycling events. The start of the Time Trial at the front door of the Palace as well as the Finish outside and the Medal Ceremonies at the Gate will all be seen around the world and should spark even more interest from future visitors. If this proposed scheme were to be implemented, then it would enhance the setting of Hampton Court Palace and provide tourists with a splendid view of the Palace across the River Thames as they arrive from Hampton Court Station. It would bring to an end the difficulties that have arisen with regard to the Gladedale proposals for the wider Jolly Boatman site and may even encourage Network Rail to bring forward plans to improve the state of Hampton Court Station. This proposal would provide a fitting and lasting Olympic Legacy of which Elmbridge could be justifiably proud.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Reid,

Chairman, The Walton Society
