River Thames Society

The River Thames Society is hosting an evening talk by Ian Dow. Former Engineering Manager with BBC TV Outside Broadcasts, Ian Dow of Lower Sunbury will be giving a talk on Friday 18th November, 7:30pm at St Nicholas Parish Hall, Church Square, Shepperton TW17 9JY. The talk is entitled ‘Lights, Camera, Action- oops!’ The event is arranged by the River Thames Society and entrance costs £4.00 for members and £5.00 for non-members.

Olympic Torch comes to a town near you…..

Olympic Torch Relay to pass through more than 1,000 communities The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) revealed the 1,000 cities, towns and villages on the route of the Olympic Torch Relay. Between 18 May and 27 July, the Olympic Flame will come to within just 10 miles of 95% of the population of the UK. Stompond Lane Sports Ground to move to Waterside Drive?

Tomorrow evening ( 7pm Wednesday 19th October)  the Elmbridge Council Cabinet will discuss a paper recommending that consultants are hired to advise on a planning application to create a new sports development at Waterside Drive next to the Xcel Leisure Complex. Walton Playhouse….now and in the future

Walton Playhouse Refurbishment Work is now well underway on the refurbshment of The Playhouse as can be seen from the photograph below. The refurbishment will include new flat roofing, drainage repairs, double glazed windows, new fire doors and partitions, and a new fire detection system. Walton Heritage…….a successful day!

Heritage Day 2011 Another successful Heritage Day was held at Walton Wharf on Saturday.  A couple of showers did not dampen the enthusiasm of those involved, and, as in previous years, there was a steady stream of visitors through the afternoon. The Cobham Brass Band , the Jazz Band and the Punch and Judy provided fun entertainment through the afternoon, and  there was a welcome return to the event by Heathside School and their band.  ... Read More

It all started before 5.00am……..

Well, event marshalls for the London-Surrey Classic Race were arriving in Walton at 4.00am today some travelling from as far as Derby to ensure the crowds did not cause any safety issues on the day. As this was the ‘test’ event for next years Olympics all seemed to go well as far as we could see in the Walton area, hopefully so did the rest of the course and roads in Walton were all re-opened by 13:30hrs. ... Read More

40 Kilometers of barriers will greet you this Sunday the 14th August if you turn out to watch the London-Surrey Classic Cycle Race.
